Detailed Tour Itinerary:

Day 1: Bangkok

Gold Explore – From Angkor to the White Beaches of Koh ChangDay 1

Welcome to Thailand. After clearing the entry formalities, exit into the arrival Area and meet your private guide from Khiri Travel. He/she will be holding a sign with your names on it. Transfer to your hotel to relax after your long international flight.

Day 2: Bangkok - Surin

Today is a free day. You will have the opportunity to recover from your jet lag and make a relaxing boat trip on the Chao Phraya River or visit one of the magnificent temples of Bangkok. Don't forget to check out at noon.
At a predetermined time you will be picked up at your hotel for the transfer to the railway station.
Your overland adventure to Cambodia is about to start.
The train journey in itself is an adventure.

Day 3: Surin - Siem Reap

In the early morning you will arrive in Surin in Northeast Thailand. Our driver will be waiting for you at the railway station. You can have breakfast on own before the transfer to the Thai-Cambodian border at Anlong Veng about 1.5 hours.
After having completed immigration and customs formalities you can walk across the border. Your Cambodian guide and driver will welcome you to Cambodia. Sooasday! Welcome to Cambodia!

Anlong Veng used to be a stronghold of the infamous Khmer Rouge in former times. Their leader, Pol Pot, a murderous clown, was executed here in 1998.
You will leave Anlong Veng behind you and set course for Siem Reap. The road is in bad condition. Siem Reap is 136 km. far from Anlong Veng, this will take approximately 3.5 hours for driving.
Late afternoon arrival in Siem Reap.

Day 4: Siem Reap

This morning drive to the walled city of Angkor Thom. Visit, amongst others, the Bayon, the Gate of Angkor Thom, Baphuon, the Terrace of the Leper King and the Terrace of the Elephants. Return to the hotel in the late morning for a break for lunch and a swim. In the afternoon return to Angkor. You will have the whole afternoon for a visit to the main temple, Angkor Wat. Sunset at Phnom Bakeng.
Return to the hotel.

Day 5: Siem Reap

Early departure from the hotel. Drive to Banteay Srei, a small but exquisite temple, approximately 45 kms from Siem Reap. Having picnic lunch from Blue Pumpkin restaurant at the waterwheel. Continue to Angkor. Visit Ta Phrom, the gem of Angkor. This temple has been largely taken over by the jungle. The sight of temple ruins overgrown with the roots of huge fig trees is unforgettable. Visit Preah Khan where the World Monument Fund has a project. On the way back to Siem Reap stop at the Krouasah Thmei school that houses an excellent exhibition about the Tonle Sap Lake.

Your guide and driver will pick you up from the hotel and you will start your next leg to Phnom Penh, it is 314 km. far from Siem Reap, this will take approximately 6 hours for driving. Along the way you will stop briefly at Spean Praptos, a fantastic stone bridge from the Angkor period. The bridge is used only for pedestrians and two wheeled vehicles and stands as proof of the craftsmanship of the Khmers. At Kompong Thom you will leave the main road for the visit of Sambor Prei Kuk.


The road to Sambor Prei Kuk is bumpy and unpaved. Sambor Prei Kuk was the capital of the Chenla Kingdom which predates Angkor by several centuries. The ruins are spread out over a vast distance. Sambor Prei Kuk gets very few visitors and you can enjoy the beautiful ruins in peace and quiet.
At the end of the afternoon you will reach Phnom Penh, the capital of Cambodia.

Day 7: Phnom Penh

In the morning you will visit Choeng Ek, the location of the infamous Killing Fields. Continue to Tuol Sleng prison, the notorious Khmer prison where thousands of Cambodians perished in the darkest hours of Cambodian history.
The afternoon is free at leisure. If you want you can visit other sights such as the Silver Pagoda and the Royal Palace on your own.

At 0830 your driver and guide for the journey will pick you up to Battambang. This will take approximately 6 hours (291 kilometers), not including stops along the way. Along the way you will stop at Udong, which was the capital of Cambodia from the early 17th century until 1866 when the capital was moved to Phnom Penh. Several temples, stupas and other structures cover three hills. From Udong the view over the countryside is impressive. Continue to Battambang. Along the way you will stop at several villages where silverware is being manufactured.
After arrival in Battambang you have the opportunity to explore this charming city on your own.

Day 9: Battambang

Today we explore the surroundings of Battambang.
Battambang is a pleasant city with its tree-lined streets, colonial feel and laid-back atmosphere; several interesting temples and ruins can be found in the area around Battambang. Wat Ek Phnom, located about eight kilometers from Battambang, is the largest and was probably the most extravagant of the temples.
We will visit Wat Banan, a ruin atop Phnom Banan (Banan Hill), offering spectacular views of the surrounding plains. We will also visit Phnom Sampeau, the site of the "Killing Caves". There is a Khmer Rouge memorial as well as an interesting temple on top of this hill.
You will also have the opportunity to make a ride on the bamboo train, quite an unforgettable experience.
Late afternoon return to your accommodations in Battambang.

Today you will embark on another exciting overland adventure. After breakfast you will set course to the Phsar Prom/Ban Prakard bordercrossing close to Pailyn. The road is bumpy. The drive to the border will take about 3 to 4 hours (90 kilometers), depending on the time of year (wet or dry....). You will pass through Pailyn, the centre of gem mining in Cambodia and known for its past as one of the hideouts of the infamous Khmer Rouge. After having completed Cambodian immigration procedures you will enter Thailand. You will get a free visa upon arrival (see our visa section for more details)
Your Thai driver will wait for you to transfer you to the Thammachat Pier, close to Trad. This drive will take about 2 1/2 hours.
Your driver will drop you off at the pier.
Take the ferry to Koh Chang.
Upon arrival you will have to take a taxi to the resort.

Day 11: Koh Chang
